EXPLORATIONS INTO FREEDOM INTENSIVE
“...that pure observation has nothing personal, nothing individual, it is pure seeing.”
—J.Krishnamurti, January 1982
At the end of his life, Krishnamurti pointed to pure impersonal ‘seeing’ and ‘listening’, with that sense of intense aliveness, as the factor that could radically change our perception, that would allow us to experience what lies beyond our sense of limitation, personal suffering, conflict, confusion and isolation, so that we can glimpse the limitless energy and potential of what it actually means to be alive.
Richard Waxberg and Deborah Kerner, founders of the original Krishnamurti Study-Intensive Programs, have created a new 7-day program that gives us an opportunity to explore and experiment with bringing pure seeing and listening into our shared work together.
This is an entirely new approach to working with Krishnamurti’s teaching that emphasizes the transformational potential of direct seeing and listening, which could allow us to move beyond knowing, even beyond understanding, so that we can experience pure seeing as an energetic shift.
Pure seeing and listening does not need an authority who tells us how to see. Rather it is through exploring and experimenting together that we create the opportunity to find out for ourselves what the nature of pure seeing and pure listening is.
This penetrating work has the potential to set into motion dynamic, fresh perceptions, an ‘aliveness’, that can flush out previously unexamined resistances, fears and contradictions hidden in the unconscious, and accumulated over a life-time.
We are creating an atmosphere of trust and affection, that encourages us to go beyond the psychological limitations of the ‘me’, where our ‘personal’ histories and the habitual nature of our conditioned thinking no longer divide us from the wholeness of life.
We are interested in approaching the time-less state of pure ‘seeing and listening’, to see if it is possible to sense the unburdened energy of unconditional love, that is beyond knowledge and its conditioning effects, beyond the illusions of security and separation, beyond the need to arrive anywhere or to resolve anything.
This approach allows a seeing of what Krishnamurti referred to as the unitary movement, the singularity that is beyond all division and fragmentation of the mind.
In 2005, Richard Waxberg and Deborah Kerner created and developed the original Krishnamurti Study-Intensive Programs, which they co-facilitated for 9 years. Beginning in June 2014, they introduced their new program, the Explorations into Freedom Intensives.
Over a 20 year period, Richard taught and developed a variety of courses for Parsons School of Design in New York City. He also led programs in teacher training that helped teachers to communicate with students from different cultural backgrounds. Richard is a practicing writer and artist.
Deborah has taught workshops on graphic design in New York City, and continues to have a distinguished career as a book designer with clients such as Random House and HarperCollins. She is a practicing poet and artist.
Both Richard and Deborah taught a variety of art and design programs at the Krishnamurti Rishi Valley School in India. They also participated in numerous dialogues held at Krishnamurti Centers throughout India.
As a part of their spiritual journey, Richard and Deborah studied and participated in Native American shamanic spiritual practices with traditional elders from several Native American tribes, before discovering the profound insights of Krishnamurti.
