The Krishnamurti Foundation of America

November 2015

Dear Friends,

I'm happy to announce that after months of work, Pine Cottage, Krishnamurti's former home, has a new roof.  The preservation of this historic property in Ojai, where Krishnamurti lived from 1922 till his death in 1986, represents an important part of the responsibilities of the foundation. Our upcoming plans include the renovation of the interior of Pine Cottage. His explicit wishes were that this building should be used for his teachings only. His house is now our Study Center and also referred to as the Library. We want his former house to be a place of study and a resource for students of the teachings from all over the world.

The newest Krishnamurti book, titled Unconditioning and Education will be released on December 7 and is available now to pre-order. This book presents previously unpublished conversations between Krishnamurti and the first teachers and parents of Oak Grove school, which took place leading up to its founding in Ojai in 1975.  They discuss the need for a radical new approach to education, capable of broadening the minds of children in a setting that encourages observation and creativity, and goes beyond the traditional knowledge-based approaches which, instead conditions them to conform to society.  The discussions also look at the important role of the teacher-student relationship in contributing to such an environment which encourages observation and creativity.

Another upcoming publication is the new 2016 calendar, which contains quotes from Krishnamurti's talks, along with the beautiful photographs by Krishnamurti's good friend Friedrich Grohe.  These will be in stock November 23 and can be pre-ordered now

Next week I will be traveling to the East Coast to interact with groups at Duke University and medical students in Brooklyn.

At the Educational Center we have an upcoming weekend program December 4-6, titled The Core of the Teachings, which is intended to have a close look at the basic intent of Krishnamurti's work and the fundamental questions he invites us to ask ourselves.

January 17-24 we will host the 2016 Winter Study Intensive Retreat, which provides space for a kind of seeing and listening that does not need an authority to tell us how to see. Rather it is through exploring and experimenting together that we create the opportunity to find out for ourselves what the nature of 'pure seeing and pure listening' is.

"Freedom is not a reaction; freedom is not a choice. It is man's pretence that because he has choice he is free. Freedom is pure observation without direction, without fear of punishment and reward. Freedom is without motive; freedom is not at the end of the evolution of man but lies in the first step of his existence. In observation one begins to discover the lack of freedom. Freedom is found in the choiceless awareness of our daily existence."

This new book presents a series of dialogues in which  Krishnamurti explores with parents and teachers the need for a radical approach to schooling. Weekend Retreat:
The Illusion of the Self
Fri-Sun, January 8-10
What is the source of psychological illusion and what is it within the mind which creates these illusions, and then holds on to them in spite of the resulting contradictions, confusion, and conflict? Is there one fundamental illusion which has produced all the rest, and might this illusion be that we believe and act as if we are separate selves?
