The Krishnamurti Foundation of America

August 2015

Dear Friends,

Our activities are focused around making the teachings available through traditional and modern media, outreach programs both in the USA and internationally, and through our adult educational center and school in Ojai. We just published our KFA Annual Report and a separate report for the Oak Grove School. Click here to access both reports.

On September 1st, we start some major construction work on the roof of Pine Cottage, Krishnamurti's former home. If you are planning to visit us in Ojai during the first two weeks of September, please be prepared for some inconvenience. We will be open on the weekends and on Labor Day. Click here for library closure dates.

Daniel Kilpatrick, an Associate Professor of Microbiology, Physiological Systems and Neuroscience, at the University of Massachusetts, is facilitating a five-day program called Science and the Unknown at the Educational Center Monday, September 7th through Friday, September 11th.

On the weekend of September 25th - 27th, we are organizing a program called Introduction to Krishnamurti. This program is aimed for a variety of participants, including those who are interested, but who know little or nothing of Krishnamurti's work. The program will be facilitated by Liz Otterbein and myself.

The next possible start date for our one-year Residential Student Program is January 2016. We're currently accepting applications.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us with our marketing and communication efforts. If you are in a position to support us, please let us know

Affectionately,

Jaap Sluijter
Executive Director

"Also in order to understand ourselves we need a great deal of humility. If you start by saying, `I know myself', you have already stopped learning about yourself; or if you say, `There is nothing much to learn about myself because I am just a bundle of memories, ideas, experiences and traditions', then you have also stopped learning about yourself. The moment you have achieved anything you cease to have that quality of innocence and humility; the moment you have a conclusion or start examining from knowledge, you are finished, for then you are translating every living thing in terms of the old. Whereas if you have no foothold, if there is no certainty, no achievement, there is freedom to look, to achieve. And when you look with freedom it is always new. A confident man is a dead human being."

Monthly Video Quote
We have searched the global archives for those moments when Krishnamurti was exceptionally clear about a particular theme.

This Month's Theme:
Freedom
This year's theme:
Awakening of Intelligence
Each year we choose an annual theme to explore deeply, including this exploration in our tour programming and our annual gathering. This year's chosen theme is The Awakening Intelligence. To begin your exploration of this theme, we recommend that you read or re-read and refresh this book, which is available through our online bookstore.
Explorations into Freedom Intensive
Sun-Sun, November 8-15
Please join us for the November Freedom from the Known Intensive Retreat, that will encourage us to 'see' the extraordinary potential, that Krishnamurti is pointing to, as a re-discovery of the timeless unburdened mind.
Oak Grove School Senior Projects
As part of their culminating reflections on Krishnamurti's teachings, each year Oak Grove high school seniors produce videos, installations, sculptures, writing, and more within their Religion, Culture, and Ethics class. Visit www.oakgroveschool.org/senior-project to view a sampling of their work.
